The Governor announced today there are an additional five cases of COVID-19 in Arkansas. As a result, all schools
in Pulaski, Jefferson, Grant and Saline Counties will be closed until March 30th. The Governor indicated that these
schools would be using AMI days in conjunction with Spring Break the week of the 23rd.
The Division of Elementary and Secondary Education allows for schools to apply for approval of an Alternative
Methods of Instruction (AMI) plan for emergency or exceptional circumstances such as a contagious disease
outbreak, inclement weather, or utility outage, that prevents students from physically attending school on
campus. Riverview School District has approval for 10 AMI days if they are needed. We will begin working with our
teachers to get AMI packets ready to send home by next week.
At this time, the Secretary of Health, in consultation with the Secretary of Education, shall have sole authority to close
public school campuses throughout the state for reasons related to COVID-19. We are staying in contact with the
state about any changes for Riverview School District and our next steps if there should be a change. We will update
our website (riverviewsd.org) and Facebook page with notifications of any changes.
The Arkansas Department of Health is still stressing the following steps to help prevent the spread of the virus:
· Staying home when they are sick or have a fever.
· Frequent hand washing with soap and water. If soap and water are not readily available, using an alcoholbased
hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
· Advising persons to avoid touching their eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
· Following the school's routine cleaning and disinfection program.
· Cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing.
· Urging students and staff to get a flu shot during the flu season.
· Providing adequate supplies for good hygiene.
If you have questions about children who may be exhibiting symptoms, Arkansas Children’s Hospital asks you to
contact them at 1-800-743-3616.

Riverview School District will continue to monitor student and employee illness, and guidance provided to us by the
Arkansas Department of Health and the Arkansas Department of Secondary and Elementary Education.
Please know we take the health of our students and staff very seriously. We appreciate your continued trust in
allowing us to serve your children.
