Important message for parents: Good evening, this is Stan Stratton, Superintendent with Riverview School District. Providing a safe and secure learning environment is our top priority at Riverview School District. We would like to make our families and other stakeholders aware that this evening a SnapChat was shared that contained our District logo and a possible threat. This snapchat is not a specific threat to any one building. We have notified all authorities in our District. An investigation is being conducted, and we are working diligently to identify suspects. We want our students and others to understand that threats of violence against schools are felony acts, and once suspects are identified and found to be responsible, appropriate school discipline policy will be enacted, and the suspect will be turned over to law enforcement and prosecuted. But, know that in order to perform the most thorough investigations, we are unable to provide confidential details to the public. In the spirit of transparency, though, we want to make sure our families are informed of these threats. It is crucial that we all work together to ensure our children are aware of the gravity of these acts and that we talk with them about the importance of their words and actions. We also ask our families to be mindful that if your child is aware of a threat and informs you that you encourage him or her to report immediately or report it yourself. In an effort to be proactive on Monday, we will have an increased police presence at our campuses, but as parents, it is your right to keep your child at home without penalty for missing school. Please know that we are taking this matter seriously and are doing everything to continue providing a secure learning environment. In closing, a few reminders: Be watchful of your child’s social media and please be sure that all firearms are properly secured in your home. We thank White County Sheriff's Office, Judsonia & Kensett Police Departments for diligent efforts in keeping our students and staff safe, and we thank you for your continued support of our district and the educators and support staff who work tirelessly to ensure higher levels of learning for all students.
