RHS Parents/Guardians, Due to the current pandemic and health department guidelines for schools, Riverview School District wanted to send out the most recent information regarding summer school. Unfortunately, due to current guidelines, we are not able to accommodate a summer school session on any of our campuses as we have in the past years. The current pandemic has challenged schools across the nation to become creative in educating our students. Options for regaining loss credit will be no different. Riverview High School is committed to seeking additional and creative options for credit recovery once the new school year begins and will release information on these options as they become available. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your building principal.

School Choice The Riverview School District is now accepting applications for students wishing to participate in the School Choice Program. The School Choice Act 560 of 2015 is the program authorized by the Arkansas General Assembly that allows parents to apply for their child's admission to participating school districts other than the one in which they reside. Applications for the 2020-2021 school year must be received on or before May 1, 2020, to be considered eligible for the coming school year. Applications should be turned in to the non-resident district which shall notify the resident district of the filing of the application. Assignments will be made on the basis of space availability. Applicants will be notified of their acceptance or rejection by July 1st. http://dese.ade.arkansas.gov/public/userfiles/Legal/School_Choice/School%20Choice%20Form%20and%20FAQ.pdf

Parents/Guardians, The Riverview School District would like to formally provide information regarding our annual senior events. Due to the current closure directives from the state and the difficult challenges that face a district logistically, the 2019-2020 Prom has been postponed. The health and safety of our students is a top priority. If circumstances change and permit such events, we will re-assess the ability to host a prom at that time. As COVID-19 continues to disrupt many school traditions and memory-making events, the one tradition and ceremony we have tried tirelessly to keep on our schedule is the 2020 graduation ceremony. This ceremony is the culmination of 13 years of education experiences your child has achieved to be a high school graduate. With this in mind, we are still planning to host a graduation ceremony for all our seniors. While we understand the inconveniences associated with moving a graduation ceremony, we are not able to accommodate the current date of May 8, 2020 under current state directives. Because of the uncertainty surrounding the recent pandemic, we cannot anticipate exactly how re-emergence will take place throughout our state and nation in the coming weeks and months. Knowing we may still have to make adjustments for social distancing and other considerations, we have set the following two alternative dates and times for graduation: Our first date for the 2020, graduation ceremony will occur on Friday, June 12, 2020, at 7:00pm in the Riverview Activity Center (RAC). If our state and nation are still under social distancing regulations that limit large gatherings, we will host the 2020 graduation ceremony at a later date on Friday, July 24, 2020, at 7:00pm in the RAC. Seniors who are not able to make the graduation ceremony on the dates provided should contact the high school office at 501-203-2351 as soon as possible. Any senior who will be joining the military and unavailable because of military duties will still be recognized with a seat and announcement during the ceremony. The ceremony is planned for a live-streaming event in normal fashion via our social media pages for family members or supporters who cannot attend in person. In lieu of the senior slideshow presentation that would normally take place as part of our annual graduation week events, we are posting the senior slideshow on our school social media page for all to view in the safety of your homes. Although necessary, we understand that these changes may place an undue burden on previously planned family celebrations. This is not how senior year was suppose to end. And it’s definitely not how our district envisioned it. However, we have no doubt the class of 2020 will pull through these circumstances and start their adulthood in the positivity and hope of a brighter tomorrow for everyone. We love the senior class of 2020 and wish you all the best of luck in all your future endeavors. Remember, “Once a Raider, Always a Raider.” Please contact your campus principal for any questions or concerns.

The Riverview School District celebrates National Library Week 2020 by acknowledging our great librarians throughout the district. Thank you for all you do! This year's theme is "Find your place at the library." The theme was chosen some time ago before any of us could imagine the emergence of a global pandemic that would force most libraries to temporarily close their physical spaces. But you can still find your place at the library because libraries are open for business online, providing the virtual services and digital content their communities need more than ever. You can access ebooks, movies, music, video games, virtual storytimes and activities, and so much more — all from the comfort of your home. Find your place through our online library services throughout the district or through our local White County Regional Library System. https://rvsd.follettdestiny.com/common/welcome.jsp… https://whitecountylibraries.org/

The Governor announced today there are an additional five cases of COVID-19 in Arkansas. As a result, all schools in Pulaski, Jefferson, Grant and Saline Counties will be closed until March 30th. The Governor indicated that these schools would be using AMI days in conjunction with Spring Break the week of the 23rd. The Division of Elementary and Secondary Education allows for schools to apply for approval of an Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) plan for emergency or exceptional circumstances such as a contagious disease outbreak, inclement weather, or utility outage, that prevents students from physically attending school on campus. Riverview School District has approval for 10 AMI days if they are needed. We will begin working with our teachers to get AMI packets ready to send home by next week. At this time, the Secretary of Health, in consultation with the Secretary of Education, shall have sole authority to close public school campuses throughout the state for reasons related to COVID-19. We are staying in contact with the state about any changes for Riverview School District and our next steps if there should be a change. We will update our website (riverviewsd.org) and Facebook page with notifications of any changes. The Arkansas Department of Health is still stressing the following steps to help prevent the spread of the virus: · Staying home when they are sick or have a fever. · Frequent hand washing with soap and water. If soap and water are not readily available, using an alcoholbased hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. · Advising persons to avoid touching their eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. · Following the school's routine cleaning and disinfection program. · Cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing. · Urging students and staff to get a flu shot during the flu season. · Providing adequate supplies for good hygiene. If you have questions about children who may be exhibiting symptoms, Arkansas Children’s Hospital asks you to contact them at 1-800-743-3616. Our custodial staff are ensuring all classrooms and frequently touched surfaces are regularly disinfected Riverview School District will continue to monitor student and employee illness, and guidance provided to us by the Arkansas Department of Health and the Arkansas Department of Secondary and Elementary Education. Please know we take the health of our students and staff very seriously. We appreciate your continued trust in allowing us to serve your children.

Inclement Weather Modified Bus Routes when school will be in session. In order to assure the safest possible transportation due to inclement weather, the Riverview transportation department has developed bus routes to be used only in case of iced over and snow bound roads, and those roads that are impassible because of high water. Students must be carried to a location along these routes outlined by this policy. Continue to monitor this information in case of a route change. Snow Route Bus #29 will run only on highway 367 from the Country Corner convenience store to the Hay’s store. Students that ride this bus or another bus and live off of highway 367 will ride this bus. Snow Route Bus #40 will run highway 157 from highway 367 to Yankee Road and Yankee Road from highway 157 to highway 258 and return to Judsonia Elementary School. Students that live along that route will ride this bus (whether or not this is your regular bus). Snow Route Bus #43 will pick up Brock Addition students at the corner of Forey Street highway 367. Snow Route Bus #39 will run Madison Street and Eastline and return back to Judsonia Elementary School. Students along this route, including across the tracks in Depot Town must catch the bus on this route (this bus will not cross the railroad tracks). Snow Route Bus #38 will run Hopkins Drive and C.W. Road and back to Judsonia Elementary School only. Snow Route Bus #42 will run rocky Point Road, highway 258 and Missile Base Road. Students living along this route will meet the bus on these roads. Snow Route Bus #11 will run Old Railroad and highway 323 to Cain Road and back to Kensett Elementary School. Students along this route must catch the bus on these roads. Snow Route Bus #33 will run Bailey Road to Higginson, highway 11 to Griffithville, and highway 385 back to Kensett. Students along this route must catch the bus on these roads. Snow Route Bus #28 will run highway 367 to Booth Road and back to Morning Sun, then highway 11 to Higginson, New Morrow Church Road to highway 385 and back to Kensett. Students along this route must catch the bus on these roads. Snow Route Bus #34 will run highway 36 to Georgetown store and back to Kensett only. All students must catch the bus on highway 36. Snow Route Bus #37 will Popular Street to Race Street to Rand Street and then highway 36 to MLK Street in Kensett and back to Doniphan. The bus will not leave highway 36 or Race Street. Snow Route Bus #35 will run North Street and Buffalo Road only and back to Kensett Elementary School.

Officer Cochrane, our resource officer, received notification that the Little Rock FBI office received a report indicating a school shooting would occur in Arkansas on 8/29/19. No specific school was indicated in the notice. The reporting party lives in another country, and his/her identity could not be confirmed. The reporting party allegedly received the information while playing an online video game. This information was provided to all local law enforcement agencies for general awareness. While this information was provided for general awareness and is not specific to our school, we are taking the report seriously. We will work with all police departments to have an increased law enforcement presence on our campuses throughout the day. If you have any concerns, please feel free to reach out to your building principal, Superintendent, or Officer Cochrane.

Before we began, we wrote down our predictions of how we were going to take each cup off without touching it with our hands. Students then were able to work with their partners to unstack the cups and do different challenges. As we finished, we then gave the activity a name, explained why we named it that and then shared our good and bad experiences on paper. Students had to write about how they had to work together and and their roles in this activity.

Riverview Parents and Patrons: Earlier today, a video was created as part of a class assignment by students depicting minority students experiencing racial slurs and behaviors. The video has been removed from all Riverview social media pages. We are conducting a complete and thorough investigation into this matter. The Riverview School District does not condone this type of behavior under any circumstances. We work diligently to ensure the rights of all students are respected to the fullest degree. We are a community filled with diversity that we seek to celebrate each day. Please know that this matter will be fully investigated and the appropriate measures will be taken to ensure incidents like this do not happen in the future. -Dr. David Rutledge, Superintendent

Attention Riverview Parents, Students, and Community Members: As many of you are aware, rumors have been quickly circulating overnight on social media about a student issue at the high school yesterday. A student did make an inappropriate comment yesterday morning, and it was reported immediately to our staff and administration. Our staff, SRO, and principals handled the issue quickly and efficiently. No students were in danger at any time and there were NO weapons on campus yesterday. The appropriate actions were taken by the administration to make sure all students, including the student in question, were safe and receiving the help they needed. I want to commend Officer Williams. Mr. Luttrell, and Mr. Rush for how well they handled a difficult situation and thank them for working hard to keep everyone safe. Again, we always focus on student and staff safety and if a legitimate threat had been present, further actions would have been taken. Please help share and/or correct anyone who has been misinformed by the rumors circulating.
