Dear Parents and Patrons of the Riverview School District: As most of you are aware, Governor Asa Hutchinson is calling for the closure of all public schools in the state due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All Riverview School District campuses will be closed and utilizing Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI days) beginning Monday, March 16, 2020 through March 27, 2020. This includes spring break. Following the guidance of AAA, all activities are canceled until classes are resumed. At this time, all classes are scheduled to be back in session on Monday, March 30, 2020. The Governor announced today there are an additional five cases of COVID-19 in Arkansas. As a result, all schools in Pulaski, Jefferson, Grant and Saline Counties will be closed until March 30th. The Governor indicated that these schools would be using AMI days in conjunction with Spring Break the week of the 23rd. The Division of Elementary and Secondary Education allows for schools to apply for approval of an Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) plan for emergency or exceptional circumstances such as a contagious disease outbreak, inclement weather, or utility outage, that prevents students from physically attending school on campus. Riverview School District has approval for 10 AMI days if they are needed. We will begin working with our teachers to get AMI packets ready to send home by next week. At this time, the Secretary of Health, in consultation with the Secretary of Education, shall have sole authority to close public school campuses throughout the state for reasons related to COVID-19. We are staying in contact with the state about any changes for Riverview School District and our next steps if there should be a change. We will update our website (riverviewsd.org) and Facebook page with notifications of any changes. The Arkansas Department of Health is still stressing the following steps to help prevent the spread of the virus: · Staying home when they are sick or have a fever. · Frequent hand washing with soap and water. If soap and water are not readily available, using an alcoholbased hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. · Advising persons to avoid touching their eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. · Following the school's routine cleaning and disinfection program. · Cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing. · Urging students and staff to get a flu shot during the flu season. · Providing adequate supplies for good hygiene. If you have questions about children who may be exhibiting symptoms, Arkansas Children’s Hospital asks you to contact them at 1-800-743-3616. Our custodial staff are ensuring all classrooms and frequently touched surfaces are regularly disinfected Riverview School District will continue to monitor student and employee illness, and guidance provided to us by the Arkansas Department of Health and the Arkansas Department of Secondary and Elementary Education. Please know we take the health of our students and staff very seriously. We appreciate your continued trust in allowing us to serve your children.

To clarify the events of the day, there was a shooting in the Kensett community. It did not involve the school in any way. We will dismiss at our normal time.
After we received information from our resource officer this morning about an incident that happened in Kensett. It was determined our students and staff were not in danger, so we did not lockdown any of our schools. We have been told the suspects are no longer in our area.
Officer Cochrane, our resource officer, received notification that the Little Rock FBI office received a report indicating a school shooting would occur in Arkansas on 8/29/19. No specific school was indicated in the notice. The reporting party lives in another country, and his/her identity could not be confirmed. The reporting party allegedly received the information while playing an online video game. This information was provided to all local law enforcement agencies for general awareness. While this information was provided for general awareness and is not specific to our school, we are taking the report seriously. We will work with all police departments to have an increased law enforcement presence on our campuses throughout the day. If you have any concerns, please feel free to reach out to your building principal, Superintendent, or Officer Cochrane.
Today, students participated in our Stacking of the Cup/Writing Activity! We worked with our partners to do different challenges as we stacked and unstacked the cups. Before we began, we wrote down our predictions of how we were going to take each cup off without touching it with our hands. Students then were able to work with their partners to unstack the cups and do different challenges. As we finished, we then gave the activity a name, explained why we named it that and then shared our good and bad experiences on paper. Students had to write about how they had to work together and and their roles in this activity.
Thank you to McAlister’s for providing Sweet Tea to our staff! Also, we are grateful to First Security for bringing the yummy scones for teacher/staff appreciation week. 🥤 We love our community partners.💜

Through the support of our communities, we were able to provide Officer Smith's family with an almost $5000 gift to help during this time. So very proud of our Raider communities to step up and show their love and appreciation.

Riverview Parents and Patrons: Yesterday, Feb. 28th at approximately 2:30pm a reporter from a local news outlet came onto the Riverview Junior High/High School Campus. Upon his arrival, the reporter attempted to gain access into both the high school and junior high. Despite his attempts, the reporter did not gain access to any Riverview facilities without permission. The reporter was only allowed entry into the Riverview Junior High office after presenting his press credentials to the Junior High Principal. After determining the reporter’s intent for being on campus, the Junior High Principal escorted the reporter back out of the building and to the central office where he met briefly with district administration. The reporter was then escorted to his vehicle to leave campus. The Searcy Police Department was contacted and the appropriate actions were taken to ban this reporter from all Riverview Campuses and inform him of the consquences should he choose to violate this ban. It must be stressed that despite other reporting, this reporter did not gain access to any Riverview facility without permission and presenting his media credentials. Our thanks goes to the Riverview Junior High Principal, Mr. Stuart Hill, for ensuring the safety of our students. Thank you for your support in making our campuses safe and trusting us with both the safety and education of your children. Dr. David Rutledge, Superintendent
